Jim and Doug partnered together at Herman Miller, Inc., significantly contributing to both top and bottom line performance.  As Director of Information Technology and Director of Business Applications, respectively, Jim and Doug served as members of the Senior Leadership Team for the $400 million business capability focused on customers who value speed, convenience and reliability (formerly Miller SQA). 

P&L oriented with distinctive ability to align technology, processes and people, they have: 

·     Created competitive IT capabilities which leveraged business expansion from $40 million to +$400 million in sales encompassing five years of 35% compounded annual growth.

 

·     Played key leadership roles in securing industry recognition from Wirthlin Worldwide for best overall service as measured by on-time shipments, responsive lead-times and exceptional customer service.

 

·   Implemented best-in-class information technology including a manufacturing execution system that synchronizes schedules to complete orders in less than six hours and SupplyNet, a web-based/real time supplier information system.

 

·    Successfully supported lean manufacturing methods which increased sales per sq. ft. 55%, more than doubled labor productivity and improved gross margins 2% while significantly expanding product offerings. 

Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University, Doug held progressively responsible management roles with leading manufacturers in the office furniture industry including: Haworth, Trendway, American Seating and La-Z-Boy.  Additionally, he served as Manufacturing Systems Consultant for SYMIX Computer Systems, now Frontstep.  Doug is a member of APICS.  He is certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM).

Jim holds a BS in Business Administration and an MBA in General Business from Western Michigan University.  Prior to joining Herman Miller in 1990, he served as an Independent Consultant implementing Frontstep ERP systems, including the automation of Order Management, Manufacturing, Accounting, Finance and Distribution functions.  Jim is a member of Information Technology Management Association (ITMA) of West Michigan.
